Synergy Dance® featured on Strictly Come Dancing! Sunday 7th November 2021 on BBC 1.

Locally based charity, Synergy Dance® Outreach, sister company to Synergy Dance®, received a visit from Tess and Claudia from Strictly Come Dancing at Guildford Spectrum.

The Strictly team came to film one of Synergy’s inclusive classes funded by Children In Need. It was a very happy occasion. The children were delighted to meet their favourite TV presenters! Synergy Dance Outreach were featured on Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday 7th November 2021 from 7.15-8pm for all the inclusive activities they do for children and young people. Watch it here – https://youtu.be/EJeAw69uQKY

Rachael Hurton, Synergy Dance Outreach Founder & Director, said “It was a celebration of all the inclusive work we do for children and young people. A Synergy class is a happy place, and we believe that dance is for everyone. Such a happy occasion – we are so proud of all the children and teachers who took part. It was such an honour to meet Tess and Claudia and to work with both Strictly Come Dancing and Children In Need. We are so grateful for their support. Our innovative dance and yoga activities in schools and leisure centres, are serving both mainstream children and children within the Special Needs and Disability community. At Synergy no one is left behind.”

About Synergy…

Synergy Dance® is a one stop package for leisure centres and schools offering an innovative range of children’s activities for digital and offline dance clubs, yoga, parties, holiday workshops and courses. We empower leisure centres and schools, offering a complete service to increase their revenue streams and range of activities.

Synergy Dance® Outreach, was set up to create positive change, removing barriers to enable children and young people experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing through accessible, inclusive and fun dance, fitness, yoga, singing and related activities. Inclusivity is vital to us and we aim to ensure that neither finance, fitness, ability, disability nor family circumstance are barriers to participation.

In the last year Synergy Dance® expanded their reach Nationally via their online digital platform of pre-recorded classes, and the team are delighted that Synergy Dance® has won 3 National Awards:

2021 Winner of the Diversity & Inclusion Award from the Sport and Recreation Alliance

2021 Winner Specialist Dance School of the Year – Corporate Livewire – Innovation & Excellence

2021 Leader of the Year – Rachael Hurton – Club Hub UK Awards

Fully inclusive…

Synergy Dance® are fully inclusive, and their dance, fitness and yoga classes are attended by both mainstream children and young people with a wide range of conditions – Special Needs (incl. Autism, ADHD, ASD, Downs, Global development delay, MLD, ODD, learning difficulties, Down Syndrome, Dyspraxia, asthma, hearing loss, Cerebral Palsy & more), Visually Impaired and Blind, The Disability Community, Long Term Health Conditions and simply those who are low on confidence or suffering from anxiety. They stand out for our diverse range of activities and our ability to reach out to everyone who can benefit from exercise. Synergy dance and yoga classes provide activities for mainstream children and those with Special Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in schools, Outreach centres and leisure centres.

Local SEND children now have the same opportunities to enjoy dance, fitness and yoga, as the non-disabled community. In the last year Synergy launched ParaStars Dance™ and ParaStars Yoga® – seated programmes for all ages and these have been a lifeline for many children who had a disability and were unable to attend school during lockdowns. Inclusivity is vital to them. Synergy partner with many other charities and organisations including British Blind Sport, Freedom Leisure, PFP Leisure and Everyone Active.

The positive impact of dance on the children and young people Children In Need has funded is both social and physical. Children make friends, really build their confidence and parents and carers connect too. There’s also the impact of feeling included and the joy that comes from learning new dance steps to great music. The CIN funding enables dance for children and young people who might otherwise not have access to classes and keeping fit. Their range of needs means they benefit from the specialist classes we provide in a relaxed, no pressure setting, and this also gives them the confidence to try other activities in the future. Both Freedom Leisure Guildford Spectrum and Woking Leisure centre host Synergy SEND classes – for more info please contact admin@synergydance.co.uk

Keeping active throughout the Pandemic…

The Synergy Dance service is aiming to keep the nation active through inclusive and fun activities that have been developed to support all individuals including people with physical and mental disabilities. The classes are suited to all abilities with activities ranging from seated yoga to audio recordings for the visually impaired and blind.

Rachael Hurton, Synergy Dance Outreach Founder & Director, said: “At Synergy we were determined lockdown would not stop us making a difference. We are proud to support inclusive activities for all children, teens, adults and the elderly.  We encourage everyone we come into contact with to participate in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, at this time, via online training, up to five times per week.

Our Synergy courses are for all including Special Needs classes for Autism & Cerebral Palsy, audios for the Visually Impaired and Blind, seated classes for the Disability Community, those with Long Term Health Conditions and the elderly – offering much diversity and choice. Thanks to our online pre-recorded lesson and on-site activities, so many more people can join in the fun and improve their physical and mental health through our online exercise programmes which can take place anywhere and at any time.”

Background on the founder

Rachael Hurton said: “I set up Synergy to make a difference, having discovered a gap in the market for inclusive, fun dance activities which appealed to all. I had nowhere to send my little boy who wanted to learn breakdance or my little girl, who dreaded the pressure of ballet and tap and wanted to try new dance styles in a more relaxed setting.

We set up Synergy Dance® Outreach, the charity arm of Synergy, to meet local need and create positive change, removing barriers to enable people experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing through accessible, inclusive and fun dance, fitness, yoga, singing and related activities. Our beneficiaries include people with special educational needs, those who are visually impaired, the elderly and other disadvantaged people, children and young people.

“We were determined lockdown would not stop us making a difference. Synergy pivoted fast to serve all our children, communities and service users. Just four days into lockdown in March 2020, we launched our first online platform of courses for dance, yoga and meditation with courses for children, teens, adults and the elderly. We expanded our online platforms for children and young people, creating an opportunity to reach a far wider audience. We now have global interest and people can access our classes anywhere in the world. Now so many more people can join in the fun and improve their physical and mental health through exercise. To get people active is our ultimate goal – to get the nation moving and to celebrate the power of dance”!

CorporateLiveWire Innovation and Excellence Awards 2021

Synergy Dance Outreach are excited to announce that yesterday, we won the CorporateLiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards 2021 within the Specialist Dance School of the Year Category.

The Innovation & Excellence Awards celebrate and recognise businesses on a global level. Who have excelled in the last 12 months whilst showing that they have been able to adapt and innovate.

Judges consider whether the individual or business is providing the best product/service in their particular sector or industry. These considerations are determined by the quality, efficiency and delivery of the product/service provided. Decisions are made based on service excellence, industry recognition, employee satisfaction, marketing & branding, ethical practice and of course customer feedback.

These past 12-months have been like no other, and no one could have predicted COVID and the current state of the world. But, here at Synergy Dance® Outreach, we refused to give up. So, throughout lockdown we pivoted the business model and went online. Keeping our staff in work, and all of our service users active. This not only allowed us to reach our current customer base, but it also enabled us to go global introducing dance and yoga to an entire new audience. Making a real difference to those in need, and those feeling isolated.

This award comes shortly after Synergy Dance received an award for National Inclusion, which you can read more about here.

Benefits of Online Exercise

Benefits of Online Exercise

Throughout lock-down, we worked tirelessly to create an inclusive online platform for our clients, both old and new. That bought people together in a way that we never envisaged. The main aim of this platform was to help stop the feelings of isolation and enable people to stay healthy. In addition to staying safe, and because there are also many benefits of online exercise it enabled people to stay fit and keep up morale too!

Now that restrictions have eased, people might be going back to in-person classes, which is fantastic!

But we wanted to remind you that our platform is still here. We’re constantly adding new material for those of you who still feel uneasy about the return to face-to-face activities. Our online platform is also great for those who prefer to exercise at home or want to add in extra exercise between your face-to-face classes.

Whilst in-person and face to face classes have numerous benefits, so do online workouts! We’ve put together a list of our benefits of online exercise, as mentioned by our current clients;
  • Exercise at a time that suits you. Everyone is busy, between work, health, family and friends, it’s not always possible to attend fixed sessions. With online classes, you can choose to sign-in and do as much or as little as you have time for.
  • Affordability. Not everyone can afford expensive classes or gym sessions. Especially if you have additional needs and requirements that need catering for. Our online platform is completely free, and doesn’t require any additional petrol or parking costs either!
  • Motivation and Accountability. Online training does involve more self-motivation, but when it involves no travel or time restrictions it makes working out less stressful.
  • Confidence. Not everyone has the confidence to jump right in to in-person classes especially if Dance or Yoga is a new field of interest. With our online platform you can bridge the gap and get to grips with the basics. Increasing your confidence to later enable in-person classes if desired.
  • Accessibility. Loads of our clients have issues with accessibility whether that be issues with transport or finding classes that are best suited to their needs. With our online platform we have courses specifically tailored to suit all needs including SEN, VI, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Disabilities and other Long Term Health Conditions.

If you’d like to try out our platform, or are interested in partnering with us on future projects use the details below!

National Inclusion Award – what it means to us.

Diversity and Inclusion Award

You may have seen our post earlier in the year, where we were overjoyed to announce that we had won the Diversity and Inclusion Award at the Sport and Recreational Alliance annual awards ceremony sponsored by Active IQ.

Here you can see our founder Rachael Hurton speak about what the award meant to the Synergy team and how the award money will enable us to expand and continue to do great things.

“For me personally, it’s been absolutely wonderful. It’s recognition for all the hard work that we’ve done as a team this year and, as a charity, it’s recognition that we are standing for diversity and inclusion and, it’s wonderful to know that our mission is resonating with other people in the community and we’re very proud to be alongside other such wonderful candidates” – Rachael Hurton

We want to take this opportunity to thank every single one of you who has continued to support us throughout lockdown and beyond. Either by attending our online Zoom classes or by signing up to our free and paid inclusive online platforms.

We hope that now restrictions are easing that you will continue to take advantage of our free online platform to exercise, stay fit and increase your overall wellbeing.

If you’re feeling adventurous, we would also love to encourage you to attend one of our in-person classes. We have a wide array of inclusive and mainstream dance and yoga lessons held at several different venues across Surrey and beyond – find out more.

In the meantime, stay safe and if you have any questions or queries please email us at; admin@synergydance.co.uk or call us on 07713 254260.

You can find out more about the Sport and Recreation Alliance Diversity and Inclusion Award ceremony by visiting their website here.

Synergy Dance® Outreach Online Expansion
30 brand new, free, inclusive and accessible classes now available.

Synergy Dance® Outreach announced today the expansion, of their online platform with the release of 30 brand new, fun, inclusive and accessible classes now being offered for FREE in Dance and Yoga. In addition to the platform’s current generous offering of 174 lessons.

Synergy Dance® Outreach would like to give thanks to the National Lottery Funding from Sport England in partnership with EMD UK for making these additional classes possible.

The new expansion has allowed Synergy Dance® Outreach to expand their already successful inclusive platform and fill gaps in the market, making it even more accessible to the SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities) community. The platform expansion offers a new way for those with additional needs, visual impairments, disabilities and long-term health conditions to escape isolation, keep fit and healthy and improve their overall wellbeing in a place and at a pace that suits their individual needs.

When Covid-19 forced a National lockdown – at Synergy – we carried on and did not stop – to continue to reach our service users who had never needed our activities more – from one of our teen yoga participants, who is blind, to isolated children with autism, or the elderly –simply battling with loneliness, poor health or lack of mobility. Funds were down – but that didn’t stop us – we also wanted to keep our loyal team of talent in work and they all rose to the challenge of online delivery. – Rachael Hurton, Founder, Synergy Dance®

The new online platform includes additional, free classes in the following areas:

  • Mat Yoga for Children with Autism (12 classes)
  • Yoga for Teenagers with Autism (12 classes)
  • Yoga for Children with Cerebral Palsy (6 classes)

The new sessions will be available, free of charge from today. For more information, and to enrol go here; https://inclusive-dance-yoga.teachable.com

Synergy Dance Outreach was set up to meet local need and create positive change, removing barriers to enable people experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing through accessible, inclusive and fun dance, fitness, yoga, singing and related activities. Our beneficiaries include older people, those with “SEND” and other disadvantaged people, children and teenagers.

UK’s First Online Fitness Charity for People with Disabilities Celebrates 1st Anniversary

30 March 2021

UK’s first online fitness charity for people with disabilities celebrates 1stanniversary

It’s exactly a year since Synergy Dance Outreach, a Surrey-based charity providing free dance and yoga classes, took their classes online. Just days after the country went into the first national lockdown, enabling thousands of participants to continue to enjoy their activities.

The sessions, which are free of charge, thanks to funding from Sport England and The National Lottery, have now reached a national audience of up to 200,000 people of all ages with learning difficulties and physical disabilities, as well as the visually impaired and blind.

In total, Synergy Dance Outreach offers 200 online classes which are available on demand via an easily accessible online platform. They are tailored to suit each type of group. The platform includes courses for children, teens, adults and the elderly. They also have 200 online classes for the mainstream community.

The dance and yoga programmes are free for all ages including seated Para Stars Dance™ and ParaStars Yoga®, bespoke classes Synergy Audio Yoga™ and Synergy Audio Dance™ for the visually impaired and additional programmes for autism, cerebral palsy, and those with learning difficulties.  The charity recently won the national 2021 Diversity and Inclusion Award with the Sport and Recreation Alliance for their work in reaching the disability community.

A recent survey we conducted amongst our membership found that 78% of people with a disability, including the visually impaired, wouldn’t have exercised without Synergy’s online programme and 94% said they were happier and less anxious after doing the classes. The survey also found 67% of respondents reported an improvement in fitness levels and 92% want to continue the online programme when lockdown ends.

Synergy Dance Outreach now has more than 4,500 people with a disability or are wheelchair based who regularly take part in classes, as well as 3,675 participants with long term health conditions, 2,500 with special needs and autism, more than 450 with Cerebral Palsy and more than 1,500 who are visually impaired or blind.

Founder of Guildford-based Synergy Dance Outreach, Rachael Hurton, said:

“By delivering courses online we are already reaching five times the usual number of participants.  In Surrey alone demand for our services has increased by 48% during the pandemic.  These classes are clearly filling an unmet need.

“We set up Synergy Dance® Outreach to create positive change, removing barriers to enable people experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing through accessible, inclusive and fun activities.

“We were determined lockdown would not stop us making a difference. Synergy pivoted fast to serve all our children, communities and service users. Within a matter of days into lockdown we launched our first online platform of courses for dance, yoga and meditation with courses for children, teens, adults and the elderly. We now have global interest and people can access our classes anywhere in the world. Now so many more people can join in the fun and improve their physical and mental health through exercise.

“We have come a long way in just 12 months but with sector accounting for 14 million people, there are so many more who we could reach out to.”
