WHAT IS SYNERGY DANCE OUTREACH?

Transforming Lives through Inclusive Movement

Synergy Dance® Outreach is an award-winning UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of children, young people and adults through inclusive dance, fitness, yoga, singing and wellbeing activities.

We specialise in supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), long-term or life-limiting health conditions, and those experiencing social or economic disadvantage.

Our work is built on one simple belief:

No one should be excluded from movement, creativity or community belonging because of ability, health or financial barriers. Our mission is that no one is left behind.

Through joyful, accessible programmes we help people become active, build confidence, reduce isolation and improve both mental and physical wellbeing. Our case studies demonstrate the impact, importance and difference that physical activity, dance and music can make to participants.

Our Impact Heading into 2026

Our inclusive programmes reach people in SEND schools, children’s hospitals, leisure centres and Apps, care home and supported living settings, charities, Outreach venues and communities across the UK.

In the past year we have:
  • Reached 2,690+ participants directly
  • Delivered hundreds of inclusive sessions and workshops
  • Worked with 60+ partner organisations nationwide
Our programmes take place in:
  • SEND and specialist schools
  • Leisure centres and community hubs
  • Children’s hospitals including Evelina London and Great Ormond Street Hospital
  • Care homes, supported living and outreach settings
  • Holiday camps, clubs and workshops
  • Digital and online platforms and National Apps
  • One to one delivery
  • Charity partners (online and in person)

Beyond those who attend our sessions, the positive impact extends to siblings, families and carers, meaning the number of lives touched is considerably higher.

Who we Support

Synergy’s programmes are designed for people who often face the greatest barriers to participating in physical activity.

We support:
  • Children and young people with SEND
  • Participants who use wheelchairs
  • Individuals with long-term or life-limiting health conditions
  • Children and adults with additional learning needs
  • Visually impaired or blind participants
  • Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals
  • Families experiencing financial hardship
  • Seniors seeking active ageing programmes
  • Adult inclusive delivery
  • Mental health challenges, anxiety and Trauma recovery
  • Dementia, Alzheimer’s and memory loss – using music, rhythm and movement to stimulate memory, improve wellbeing and encourage social interaction.

Our sessions are carefully adapted so everyone can participate confidently, whether standing, seated, sensory-based or low-impact.

Why Our Work Matters

Many children with SEND report feeling excluded, judged or unwelcome in mainstream activities. Families regularly tell us their children have fewer opportunities than their peers.

We change that.

Synergy creates safe, nurturing and joyful spaces where everyone belongs. Through movement, creativity and connection we help participants:

  • Build confidence and self-belief
  • Reduce loneliness and isolation
  • Improve physical health and mobility
  • Develop emotional regulation and resilience
  • Form friendships and social connections
  • Create long term exercise and wellbeing habits
  • Celebrate happy vibes and have fun!
  • Within Home Education to experience exercise and dance
  • Recover from long term illness, cancer treatment and operations in children’s hospitals

For many children and families, our sessions are the first time they feel fully included in physical activity.

One of the most meaningful areas of our work is delivering movement sessions in children’s hospitals. Our trained instructors provide adapted dance, yoga and singing sessions to children aged 4 months to 18 years in environments including:

• Intensive care and high-dependency units
• Burns and renal wards
• Neuro and pain management units
• CAMHS and eating disorder wards
• A&E waiting areas and bedside sessions
• In-patients and Out-patients

These sessions help create moments of joy, normality and connection during extremely challenging times. Hospital Play teams regularly describe the sessions as “invaluable”, noting improvements in mood, engagement and social connection for children and their families.

We are not only delivering inclusive programmes – we are helping the sector become more inclusive. Through our partnership with Future Fit Training, we provide specialist training for:

• PE leads and school teachers
• sports coaches
• dance and fitness instructors
• children’s activity leaders
• Personal trainers and gym instructors
• Workforce development

Each programme provides 8 CPD points and equips professionals with the skills to confidently support neurodivergent children, young people or adults; SEND participants and those with long-term health conditions. Our CIMSPA endorsed training courses, also support primary and secondary schools -both in mainstream and Specialist school environments.

These programmes have opened new employment pathways and raised sector standards. One trainee progressed from training into paid delivery roles across Evelina Hospital, SEND schools, disability charities, and mainstream clubs.

This work is helping build a national workforce capable of delivering truly inclusive physical activity.

Inclusion is embedded in everything we do – including employment and leadership. Through our mentoring and leadership programmes, young people with SEND can volunteer, train and progress into paid roles within our charity.

For example, Sam, a young person with Down’s syndrome, now works as a paid Deputy Dance Leader, performing nationally and inspiring other young people with disabilities to pursue their dreams.

His mother shared: “Sam is absolutely living his dream and best life ever. We feel so blessed that he has paid work doing what he loves.”

We collaborate with more than 60 organisations across the UK, including:

• Schools, colleges and universities
• Local authorities, HAF and charities
• Leisure centres and gyms
• Children’s hospitals
• Care homes and supported Living
• Community hubs and youth centres
• Charity partnerships

Together, we are creating more inclusive communities and accessible opportunities for physical activity and musical enrichment.
